10th September 2005 : Freshers Party
A heart warming welcome extended to all the new students joining
SDSU in Fall 2005. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by every one present and it helped
the freshers and the seniors to know each other better. Fun games, great food and good
music made this evening a moment to cherish for one and all.
15th August 2005 : Independence Day
With a deep sense of patriotism the Indian students
at San Diego State University came together to put up performances
that not only filled the stirred hearts of all those who were present,
but also entertained them in a memorable way with songs and cultural
dances. The presentation depicting life in India truly took people
down memory lane to a place they felt at home. The celebration ended
with lunch and deserts.
10th July 2005 : Cricket Tournament
6 Teams competed this Summer to win the taped-ball Cricket tournament held at the Montezuma grounds.
Teams comprising 6 players each, thoroughly enjoyed the passionate game of cricket and everyone had great fun.
The winners and the player of the series were awarded mementos in appreciation.
26th June 2005 : Seminar on Interview and Career Related Issues
The seminar especially aimed to provide guidance to students seeking internships and full time
jobs was conducted by a professional career counselor Michael Marion and his team. Accompanying
them were a few of our students. The seminar was unique because of the knowledge of a professional
in the field and the experience shared by some of the senior students and SANSKRITI members.
This was an extensive talk covering issues related to visas (F1/H1), CPT/OPT, resumes/cover letter,
telephonic and onsite interview etiquette and everything needed to get a job.
17th April 2005 : Baisakhi, Tamil/Bengali New Year, Gudi Padva
Baisakhi - the Punjabi new year, Tamil/Bengali new year
and Gudi Padva - Maharashtrian new year all fall very close
to each other and so Sanskriti decided to keep a single
celebration for all these occasions. The highlights of the
celebration were dance presented by the Bhangara team, singing
and musical performances by a student group followed up
by dinner, housie and dance.
26th march 2005 : Holi
If Diwali is the festival of light, than Holi is definitely
the festival of color. Traditionally celebrated to welcome
the arrival of Spring and death of demoness Hoika, over
the years it has been instrumental as a unifier.
This was a great opportunity for the students
of having a little fun after weeks of strenuous course work.
18th February 2005 : Coffee Hour
The coffee hour is organized by the International Student
Center each week to represent a different country. On 18th
Feb. Indian coffee hour was organized. The showcase of the
event were the traditional Indian artifacts, food and music.
Just like the International Peace Village it gave Sanskriti
an opportunity to spread a word about India's culture and
the Indian way of living.
4th February 2005 : Freshers Party
A freshers party was organized for welcoming the new students
enrolled at SDSU. The event was a great ice-breaker as it
involved the freshers in activities such as housie, games,
dinner and of course dance and music. This helped the new
students of Spring semester greatly to get to know their
seniors personally, get important tips and advice and most
importantly to have a great time.

29th January 2005: Republic Day
It was the celebration of the Indian Republic day. Due
to some difficulties it was arranged on 29th Jan rather
than the actual date i.e. 26th Jan. The function had mainly
group singing event and flag hoisting.
20th December 2004 : After Finals Get-together
At the end of the semester, a get-together party was arranged
by SANSKRITI for all. It was a time to enjoy and have fun
with friends especially before people left for their homes
to India or to other locations to enjoy the month long vacation.
19th November 2004 : International Peace Village
International Peace Village is a common stage where different
countries set up their information booths and give visitors
an insight into their culture, traditions, specialities
etc. Sanskriti setup the Indian corner which was adorned
with exotic artifacts. Representatives were busy answering
questions, decorating of visitors with Hina and kumkum while
explaining the significance of it all. A wonderful performance
was provided by the dance team.
All in all the International Peace Village was a great platform
to share the uniqueness of India with other countries and
to get to know theirs.

13th November 2004 : Diwali
Diwali, colloquially called the "festival of lights"
for the common practice is to light small oil lamps (called
diyas) and place them around the home, in courtyards, verandahs,
and gardens, as well as on roof-tops and outer walls, is
one of the most well-known of the Indian festivals and symbolizes
Truth and Light. Diwali Celebrations in India are similar
to Christmas celebrations in the USA.
On account of this festival, SANSKRITI organized a 'Pooja'
to worship LAKSHMI, the goddess of wealth. Over 100 SDSU
students attended the Pooja. The pooja was later followed
by food and dance.
5th November 2004 : Utsav
The grand annual fest of Sanskriti, "UTSAV" was
celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm on 5th November
2004, at the Montezuma Hall with a crowd of over 200 people
from all over San Diego.
The fest started with the lighting of the traditional 'Diya'
at the hands of Chief Guest Dr. Madhavan followed by recital
of Shloka and President's speech.
The main highlights of the event were an inspiring and a
brilliant presentation depicting 54 years of Indian Independence,
Veena recital by
.., singing
and dancing, musical play and fashion show.
The event came to a close with the serving of a grand Indian
style dinner.

29th October 2004 : Bharatnatyam
Rama Vaidyanathan, one of India's top young exponents of
Bharatnatyam which is a form of Indian classical dance recital,
has been performing for the past 20years in India and abroad.
While on tour, Sanskriti had the great honor of hoisting
her performance at the Dayton Smith Recital Hall on 29th
October 2004. The event was sponsored by the School of Music
and Dance, SDSU and the brilliant dancer held the whole
crowd of over 60 people to their seats.
8th, 22nd & 23rd October 2004 : Dandiya
The Navratri festival, a festival in which people worship
Goddess DurgaMa, or AmbeMa or KaliMa, as She is called differently,
was celebrated on 8th , 22nd and 23rd October 2004 at the
Montezuma Hall.
This festival was celebrated in association with the Gujrati
Association of San Diego and a stunning crowd of over 450
people from all over San Diego were present.
The event started with the Navratri Puja and later on men,
women, girls and boys dressed in attractive chaniya cholis
and kurta pajamas enjoyed garbha, dandiya and raas for 4
hours.
3rd October 2004 : Cricket Knockout Cup
A taped ball 6- side Cricket Knockout Tournament was held
at Montezuma grounds. The tournament started at 8:30am with
six teams contesting for the trophy. There were some really
nice matches played and the suspense played throughout the
tournament until the last ball was bowled.
At the end of the tournament, the winners were awarded mementos.

24th September 2004 : Freshers party
The new working committee organized its first event, a
Freshers party for all the new comers who joined SDSU during
FALL 2004. This event took place at the International Student
Center with a crowd of over 70 students.
The main attractions of the event were a warm welcome that
was extended to the freshers by the working committee, games
so that the freshers knew each other and the seniors and
delicious Indian food. And then it was time to rock n roll.
With Hindi, English and Punjabi songs, the crowd danced
to the music and all had a great time.

17th September 2004 : Elections
Elections for the various posts in the working committee
for the year 2004-05 took place amongst great excitement
and a little confusion under the guidance of Prof. Gangaram
Singh and with the support of more than 150 students the
Committee was unanimously elected as follows: Arijit Chatterjee
(President), Sanjeev Jindal(Vice President), Vidhyashankar(Treasurer),
Mayank Jain(Secretary).
