HOUSING
One of the most important and definitely not the least
troublesome aspects is getting a housing arrangement. In
fact, many students have to arrange for their housing before
they arrive in the US, a process which is extremely confusing
and causes anxiety. And if it is a question of getting inexpensive
private housing at a place, about which one hardly knows
anything, the hassles go up exponentially.
In this page, we have tried to gather and produce housing
information about some of the most common apartment complexes
occupied by fellow Indian Students.
On-Campus Housing
The
Office of Housing Administration has seven residence hall
complexes, with a variety of living options. Residence halls
are situated on the east and west sides of campus. Each
residence hall contract includes local telephone service
with voicemail, local cable service, and Internet connections
in each room. All halls/complexes are coed. All individual
rooms, suites and apartments are same-gender.
All campus housing is filled on a first-come, first-serve
basis. For more information and application, click here.
Please note that
Indian students DO NOT prefer on-campus housing
as they tend to be costlier than off-campus housing.

Off-Campus Housing
Most
of the Indian students prefer to stay in off-campus apartments
situated within 1-2 miles from the university. There are
good and affordable apartments with average rent between
200$ and 250$ per person approximately. All the apartments
have a refrigerator, a cooking range and are carpeted. Most
of them are centrally air conditioned. The apartments are
located within 10-20 minutes walking distance from the university
with biking (cycling) as one of the options to commute to
campus.
There are three kinds of apartments that are available:
One-bedroom apartments generally shared between 2-3 people
Two bedroom apartments generally shared between 4-6 people
Studios generally shared between 1-2 people.
The Apartments with sizeable Indian students are Corinthian
Apartments, Dorchester Apartments, Vista Capri, Dorado Plaza,
Art House Apartments, College Village and Villa Del Sol.
Most of the apartments near campus are listed in the table

Temporary Accommodation
We understand that securing suitable permanent
accommodation in a new place can be quite an ordeal. That
is why most of us at SANSKRITI volunteer to accommodate
new students on a temporary basis. Please email us sdsusanskriti@yahoo.com
to let us know when and for how long you will need the accommodation.
Generally seniors volunteer for temporary accommodation
and help you familiarize with other details also. During
this time, volunteer to share daily work with your hosts.
Also if you are looking for roommates please check our Bulletin
Board
